Quiet Beauty and Fantastic Urban Utopia

Design Creation ,  College Works ,  Quiet Beauty and Fantastic Urban Utopia , Liu Yujia   The name of my graduation design is "Urban Utopia," inspired by Zhu Xi's line "The fisherman searches for a path to a utopia, which is beyond the human world." In terms of craftsmanship, in simple terms, I use embroidery and tie-dye techniques to depict the relief of blue calico prints. I chose embroidery as a creative expression of texture because it is an innovative form of patchwork design that provides a rich sense of relief and texture. I also use solid dyes in different shades of lake blue, emerald green, and navy blue to achieve a gradient effect through tie-dyeing on the fabric. Combined with the thickness of the embroidery thread, it serves as the primary means of expression for my graduation design. Furthermore, I chose blue calico prints as the theme of my project because during a trip to Fenghuang Ancient Town, I encountered the local blue calico prints, which gave me a sense of serene beauty and melancholy, like a poetic and dreamlike feeling. Therefore, I selected the distinctive local architectural features of Fenghuang Ancient Town, such as Wanming Pagoda, stilted houses, rainbow bridge, wishing pavilion, and Tuo River, as the main inspiration for my relief patterns. In the design, I reorganized the patterns to encompass both traditional charm and a modern sense. By arranging them in a continuous square pattern, the entire design stands out with a distinct theme and vivid imagery.
